UnDark..

He had ridden out to the edge of the world that afternoon, to watch the sun boil and simmer as it slowly sank over the horizon.
Fox sat on his knees quietly among the bunch grasses, as if waiting for a sign to pray for rain.  He waited, listening to the breeze, listening to the rumble of aircraft,  silently staring out at the distant lights of the towns as a sickly darkness crept over the land.  His old spotted horse, who was standing free nearby, took a step closer to him, never sure of what to make of the distant lights and roar of distant machinery. They both stared silently as a sea of lights flickered in the undark as the black night receded to a rippleless sea of orange and white lights that seem to float in the desert.

The old spotted horse did not bother to graze, but instead stood next to Fox with his head down, a broken creature cowering before the great monster of industry in the distant, so as not to attract its attention. The horse nervously reached for Foxs long graying hair to play with, but it was no longer there.

Fox hummed and closed his eyes to see the darkness he remembered seeing, or not seeing in his youth.  His scarred hands grasped the grass and drew aimless designs in the sands as he tried to stare past the bright white lights and see darkness beyond.

Fox wondered what  thoughts must went through the minds of the grandfathers of the east before they signed away his country…

Somewhere in the night, walking among the stars on earth, blind to the lightless brown sky above… a horse walked by and an blanket wrapped figure in the saddle murmured Don Gibson off KTNN 660..
“Lost love and loneliness
Memories of your caress
So divine, how I wish
You were mine again, my dear
I’m on this sea of tears
Sea of heartbreak”
